STOP THE LIES AND DISTORTIONS!

NO matter if you're a Republican or a Democrat, an Independent, an undecided voter or one who's already chosen their candidate, everyone's aware that lies, rumors and distortions are a big part of very political campaign. Yes, at the beginning of the race each candidate pledges that he or she will be the one to break the mold, that they will conduct a POSITIVE campaign, not a negative one. And maybe the candidates truly mean it....at least in the beginning, when everything is still rather theoretical. Later, as push comes to shove, and the candidates are down to a head to head battle in the final days, either ideals are compromised, reality checks are taken, or maybe campaign managers just manage to 'leak' these rumors without them being directly connected to their candidate. Who knows for sure...politics is indeed a business with a slimy underbelly.

In my opinion, the Republicans seem to base their political campaigns on fear and misinformation. They'd rather scare people with half-truths and insinuations than let the truth stand for itself. The internet only increases the confusion and allows anyone and everyone (like me!) to post their opinions, and to spread more lies, distortions and half-truths. Thankfully there are plenty of sites out there to combat these lies and distortions. One such site is called TRUTH FIGHTS BACK. If you have any doubts or questions about what you heard or read, check out this site for the truth...the whole truth. Be an informed voter, no matter what your affiliation!

Today Mark Morford had an excellent article about SARAH PALIN. As a man he's wondering just who all these women are who claim to be fervent Palin supporters. Of course as a woman I have the same questions! Sure it would be great to have a woman in the White House, but that woman would have to be the best PERSON qualified. Yes, there are many, many women who are as smart, as qualified and as ready to be president or vice president as any man, and there are also men AND women who just aren't ready...who aren't smart enough and will never be. Who aren't qualified and will never be. Who just don't have what it takes to make the right decisions under the most difficult of circumstances. But wait! Don't be fooled into thinking a person like that can't be elected! All you have to do is to look at our current president to see that low intelligence and zero foreign experience seem to be insignificant....or are they?

If you look at the state of our economy, and how the prestige of the United States has fallen to an all-time low under this president you'll see that we really do need someone to be a leader. Someone with intelligence and honor, with business savvy and commitment. Someone who'll make those tough decisions during difficult times with a reasoned approach. Someone who's not beholden to the lobbyists or to the good ol' boys network or to politics-as-it-always-has been. Let's not let our fears rule us, but rather our hopes. Let's not let lies and distortions cloud the real issues. Do your part to spread the truth about who you think can best lead our country back to a place of honor and respect. Do your part to elect Barak Obama the next president of OUR United States.
