Hi, reading about your experiences is very interesting. I like travelling and we are planning to travel around Europe in February. I was just trying to book some amazing priced flights on RyanAir but the site will not allow me to proceed if I answer no to the EU/EEA citizenship question.
Can I answer yes to this question (we are American) just to be able to proceed and purchase the Great Deal tickets where you pay for only the taxes?
If we do this will it affect us when we show up at the airports in Europe where we will be boarding the RyanAir flights with our US passports and may be, be required to pay extra or regular prices? I am visiting my daughter who is studying in France. My visit is during her break and I will be travelling with her. She has a permament residency in France as a one year exchange student but has an American passport.
Thank you.
Patience
Patience, I have no idea how to answer your question...I can't imagine that it would be a problem to have an American passport. We've traveled on EasyJet from Italy to London using our U.S. passports, but to ease your mind I'd go to the SlowTrav message board to ask that question. There's a link to it in the right hand column of the blog. Good luck!
Hi again Barbara, as always you have been helpful and very informative. After posting on your blogg yesterday I went ahead and read around the RyanAir Q&A section and something about not being able to check in online if you are not EU/EEA citizen caught my eye. So I decided to proceed with our RyanAir purchases and choose the option to check in at the airport. Low and behold it allowed me to make the purchases. I guess if you are not EU/EEA citizen then you have to pay a little extra to check in at the airport.
I am glad I got those deals on RyanAir before midnight tonight. I also bought more tickets on EasyJet and they did not have such restrictions.
Now I am on my way to travel around Italy. I have been to Europe a few times and I really like Italy.
Thanks a lot!
Patience
Great news Patience! Just be aware of the luggage restrictions when flying on budget carriers like Ryan Air and EasyJet!
