IT'S ALL A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE
My daughter will turn 40 this month, and she's not too happy about it. I don't remember 40 bothering me at all, or even 50, but I think I was happier in my life than she is right now. 60, which is still a few years away for me might be tough - already I have this sense of time running out, sands through the hourglass and all that. Still, it's what we do with the time we have, right? Enjoying every minute and hoping when our time is up we have as few regrets as possible. And so I hope that I don't regret the note I added to my daughter's package as I waited in line at the Post Office the other day. I don't know why, but suddenly I was inspired to add a little note, a little something to let her know that yes, this was her birthday present and she should wait for her birthday to open it. Now she already knows that it's chocolate - I get her favorite Perugina chocolates for her every year - chocolate bananas and Tre Re. She'll probably be able to smell the chocolate even if she didn't know, but still, I wanted to make sure she didn't open her gift early. And so, in what must have been a really low moment, perhaps one tinged with jealousy over a measly 40 years, I wrote on her package: DO NOT OPEN UNTIL YOU'RE 40. Do you think she'll be mad?

I think it's fun Barbara. I hope she doesn't get mad - who could get angry over a box of their favorite chocolates! Our son will turn 40 in January. It's hard to believe isn't it.
